This trail leads from the Sattelklause restaurant offering local specialties, through the Fendler Alm to the Anton Renk Hütte and on to the Stalanzer Alm. The Kaunertal hydroelectric power station is one of the largest in Austria. Lake Stausee is fed by streams from the entire valley, whose water is partly channeled out of the valley through a tunnel system. The hydroelectric power station was built in the 1960s. With a dam of 600m and a height of 153m, it was the tenth highest dam in the world, at the time of its’ construction.

From the car park, the cable car takes you up to Karlespitze at an altitude of 3,260 m. From the modern viewing platform, you can enjoy a unique view of the border of three countries – Austria, Italy and Switzerland with several peaks around 4,000 m high – in good weather. A panorama almost unseen on most other Austrian glaciers.
